What is Seven Killings in BaZi?
Seven Killings is the element that controls your Day Master and shares its polarity (yang with yang, yin with yin); it stands for blunt, direct pressure, which becomes drive and nerve when you can carry it or something keeps it in check, and plain strain when neither is true.

- Definition
- Controls me, same polarity (opposite polarity = Direct Officer)
- Check first
- Day Master strength, then the Killings’ own strength
- Three responses
- Tame with Output, convert with Resource, or simply carry it
- Worst case
- Strong Killings, weak Day Master, nothing to tame or convert it
Does Seven Killings always need taming?
No. Start with the Day Master. If it is strong, a light Seven Killings can be left alone; it gives a strong chart useful discipline. If the Day Master is weak, the Killings must be handled however many there are.
Then gauge the Killings themselves: in season, rooted and visible means truly strong; showing only on top with no roots, or only hidden below, means much weaker.
Tame, convert or carry: what’s the difference?
Tame: Output stars (Eating God or Hurting Officer) control the Killings. Eating God is the steadier tool.
Convert: Resource stars turn the Killings’ pressure into support: Killings feed Resource, Resource feeds you.
Both: when the Killings are very strong you can use both, but pair them so they don’t fight. Indirect Resource attacks Eating God, so the usual pairs are Direct Resource with Eating God, or Indirect Resource with Hurting Officer.
Follow: if the Killings are overwhelming and the Day Master has no roots at all, the chart is read as following the Killings rather than resisting them.
Weak Day Master with Seven Killings: which luck helps?
Cycles that strengthen the Day Master. Resource both feeds and shields you, which is why the two are said to need each other. A chart with untamed Killings entering cycles that boost Wealth or Killings is the period to be most careful.
What if Seven Killings and Direct Officer both appear?
Decide which leads. Officer strong, Killings light: remove the Killings. Killings strong, Officer light: the Officer can usually stay. When they are even, whichever of Hurting Officer or Eating God is stronger decides which one gets removed. A combined (tied-up) Officer or Killings counts as removed, not kept.
Common view vs. our view
| Common view | Our view | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Seven Killings is a disaster star | It is a structure; judge Day Master strength first | Over 95% of charts with it have a way to tame or transform it |
| It must always be tamed | Strong with light Killings: leave it; weak: tame or transform | On a weak chart, taming drains you; transforming is steadier |
| Clash direction is fixed | Who gets hurt depends on strength | The rooted, in-season side wins |
Data: how often is Seven Killings really “untamed”?
26.2% of charts show Seven Killings on a visible stem, about 1 in 4, so having it is ordinary.
Of those, 95.2% also contain an output star or a Resource star (on a stem or as a branch’s main hidden stem), which can tame or transform it. Only 3.6% are weak with neither, and that is the structure that really needs care.
21.0% show Seven Killings and the Direct Officer together on the stems.
Sample: 2,000 charts cast with our own engine (birth years 1950–2010 uniformly random, random birth time, half male/half female, Beijing true solar time); fixed seed, fully reproducible.
Two real charts
Bing Yin · Geng Yin · Jia Shen · Wu Chen (male, 9 Feb 1986, 09:00, Beijing)
Jia Wood is born in a Yin month with two Yin roots: a strong Day Master. Geng Metal, its Seven Killings, shows on the month stem and is rooted in the Shen day branch: heavy Killings. Bing Fire on the year stem is Eating God and controls Geng. Strong self, strong Killings, firmly tamed: the textbook way Seven Killings works well. The calculator also picks Fire.
Gui Mao · Yi Mao · Ji Si · Ding Mao (male, 27 Mar 1963, 06:15, Beijing)
Ji Earth is born in Mao, with Yi on the month stem and three Mao branches: Seven Killings is overwhelming and the Day Master is weak. Taming it with output (Metal) would only drain Ji further, so the calculator marks Metal unfavourable and uses Fire instead: Bing hidden in Si and Ding on the hour stem are Resource, so Killings feed Resource and Resource feeds Ji. That is transforming, not taming. Earth favourable; Water and Metal unfavourable.
FAQ
Strong Seven Killings in a woman’s chart: will her relationships be hard?
That idea comes from treating the Officer stars as the husband symbol. Whether Killings are tamed and favourable matters far more.
What careers suit a Seven Killings chart?
It is often linked with decisive, high-pressure roles, but that is symbolism. Whether it is favourable for you is the real question.
Is a Seven Killings year dangerous?
If it is favourable and tamed in your chart, it can be a breakthrough year; if unfavourable on a weak chart, leave more margin.
Common mistakes
- Seven Killings means disaster: with a strong Day Master or proper control, it is a source of drive.
- It must always be tamed: a strong chart can leave light Killings alone.
- Counting how many: one rooted, in-season Killings can outweigh three floating ones.
