What is Direct Resource in BaZi?

FateClear Editorial · Updated 2026-10-15

Direct Resource is the element that produces your Day Master with opposite yin-yang polarity; it is mild shelter that can feed you, turn Officer pressure into support, and rein in Hurting Officer — a help when you are weak, and a drag when you are already strong and Resource keeps piling on.

Definition

Fears
Wealth attacking Resource when Resource is favourable; Resource with no outlet

Data: when Direct Resource shows, how often do Wealth and Officer appear too?

Direct Resource shows on a stem in 28.1% of charts. Of those, 72.5% also contain Wealth and 73.0% contain Officer or Killings, so Wealth–Resource and Officer–Resource are almost unavoidable topics on Resource charts.

Among those charts, 26.5% are weak and land their Useful God on Resource — about 1 in 4, the plain face of “weak charts like Resource”.

Direct Resource ruling the month and visible is 3.5% of all charts. Wealth and Resource co-appear in 58.8% of all charts.

Sample: 2,000 charts cast with our own engine (birth years 1950–2010 uniformly random, random birth time, half male/half female, Beijing true solar time); fixed seed, fully reproducible.

Is Direct Resource good? Ask whether you need support

Weak: Resource is rain. Strong: more Resource becomes a burden. It is energy coming in from outside. When the Day Master cannot stand, it is exactly what you need; when you are already strong, extra Resource feels like being over-cared-for — safe but passive.

Then judge Resource itself: strongest when it rules the birth month and shows among the stems; weaker if it only appears on top with no root, or only hides in a branch.

Why is Resource often paired with Officer and Hurting Officer?

Three jobs: feed you, transform Officer/Killings, restrain Hurting Officer. Officer and Killings control the Day Master; through Resource that pressure becomes support (Officer–Resource). When Hurting Officer is too sharp, Resource can rein it in.

When taming Seven Killings with both control and transformation, pair Direct Resource with Eating God (and Indirect Resource with Hurting Officer) so the two sides do not fight each other.

What is the Wealth–Resource clash?

Wealth controls Resource. When both sit in the chart and Resource is your favourable element, heavy Wealth cuts the shelter — that is the clash.

Safer pairings: Direct Wealth with Indirect Resource, Indirect Wealth with Direct Resource; or one in the stems and one in the branches. If you use Resource, keep Wealth from getting too heavy; if you use Wealth, do not smash Resource flat.

What if the chart is all Resource and the Day Master has no root?

Do not force-feed; consider following the trend. With no root and almost nothing but Resource and Peers, stop treating Resource as the Useful God and read the special structure.

Conversely, a very strong Day Master with a crowd of Resource often needs Wealth to break Resource, or Eating God / Hurting Officer to drain the excess.

Two real charts

Wu Shen · Wu Wu · Xin Hai · Yi Wei (male, 10 Jun 1968, 13:15, Beijing)

Xin Metal is born in Wu, Fire in season, Metal out of season. Two Wu Earth stems are Direct Resource; the hour stem Yi is Indirect Wealth. The Day Master is slightly weak, so Resource feeds it. The calculator picks Earth as useful, Metal and Water favourable, Fire and Wood unfavourable — exactly those two Wu Resource stems. Yi Wealth can attack Earth; Wealth and Resource co-exist, and because this chart uses Resource, Wealth is marked unfavourable — watch Wealth luck cycles.

Ren Yin · Ren Yin · Geng Zi · Ji Mao (female, 3 Mar 1962, 06:30, Beijing)

Geng Metal is born in Yin, Wood in season, Metal out of season. Hour stem Ji is Direct Resource; two Yin branches are Indirect Wealth, Mao is Direct Wealth. Day Master weak; calculator uses Earth, likes Metal, dislikes Fire and Wood — Resource is the path. Indirect Wealth with Direct Resource is the stabler Wealth–Resource pair, but because this chart uses Resource, Wood (Wealth) is unfavourable; Wealth luck cycles still need care.

FAQ

Direct Resource vs. Indirect Resource?

Both produce the Day Master. Opposite polarity is Direct (mild); same polarity is Indirect (more sideways, often linked with specialised learning).

Does heavy Direct Resource mean a woman depends on her mother?

Resource is traditionally the mother symbol, but that is imagery. Favourable or not, and Day Master strength, matter more than the count.

Will a Wealth year break my Direct Resource?

If the chart leans on Resource and Wealth is unfavourable, yes it can shake it; Indirect Wealth paired with Direct Resource, or deep Resource roots, softens the hit.

Does Officer–Resource mean a government career?

It means controlling force turns into support. Career images are optional; it does not map to a job title.
