How to read the spouse palace: favorability first, Ten God second
The day branch, the branch under your day stem, sits right next to the Day Master, so tradition treats it as your partner’s seat: the spouse palace. Our reading is simple. If its element is useful or favorable, partnership tends to be a source of support; if it is unfavorable, this is an area that takes more care. It is one reference point, never a marriage verdict on its own.

Why is the day branch the spouse palace?
Because it is closest to the Day Master. The pillars from year to hour are often mapped to ancestors, parents, you and your partner, and children. The day pillar is “you”: the stem is you, the branch the person beside you.
The mapping makes sense, but it is only a position. Partners are also read through the Ten Gods, Wealth for men and Officer/Killings for women. When the position and the star agree, the reading is steadier.
How to read it without going astray
Step one asks a single question: is the day branch’s element useful/favorable or unfavorable? Favorable suggests partner and family tend to back you up; unfavorable suggests the area needs more effort and adjustment. In our charts the day branch was useful or favorable in 49.2% and unfavorable in 37.5%; the rest were neutral.
Only then look at the Ten God’s name. With Hurting Officer in the day branch, a favorable one reads as a lively, expressive dynamic; an unfavorable one is a reminder to watch sharp words. Treating Ten God names as good or bad in themselves is the most common misread.
Hurting Officer or Seven Killings in the day branch: a doomed marriage?
You can’t judge it that way. “A woman with Hurting Officer in the day branch harms her husband” is widely repeated, yet whether Hurting Officer helps depends on the whole chart. For a strong Day Master it drains surplus energy and is often favorable.
Among our charts, 66 women had Hurting Officer in the day branch, and 72.7% had it as a favorable element, only 16.7% unfavorable. Seven Killings works the same way: strong charts can use it; weak charts need Resource to transform it or output to control it.
Does a clashed day branch mean divorce?
A clash only says the position is prone to change; what gets clashed decides the rest. Clashing away an unfavorable element moves trouble out; clashing a favorable one is what deserves attention. A clash is the hidden stems fighting, and the stronger side wins, so a weak branch can’t shake a strong one.
23.2% of charts have the day branch clashed by another branch, about one in four, and in 50.6% of those the day branch itself is favorable. Even when a favorable branch is clashed, the luck cycles may make up for it; one clash is not a verdict.

The day branch was useful or favorable in 49.2% of charts and unfavorable in 37.5%; 13.3% were neutral. Across everyone, “is my spouse palace good?” is close to a coin toss, so each chart has to be read on its own rather than by Ten God names.

Yi Wood Day Master sitting on Si Fire. Si’s main qi, Bing, is Yi’s Hurting Officer, and the Shen month branch and the Geng hour stem are both Direct Officer. The old line about “Hurting Officer at home with Officers all around” would sound alarming.
Favorability first. Yi Wood in the Shen month, with Metal in command, scores 1 point of support against 6 of pressure, so it is rated weak: Water useful, Wood and Fire favorable, Metal and Earth unfavorable. Si Fire does drain Yi as Hurting Officer, but in early autumn, when Metal turns cool, Fire warms the chart and restrains the excess Metal, so it is listed as a supplementary favorable. The spouse palace lands on a favorable element: partnership reads as support, not harm. The years to watch are heavy Metal and Earth ones, when Officer and Wealth press together.

We rate it weak (support 1.9, pressure 5.1): Metal useful, Water and Earth favorable, Wood unfavorable. Mao Wood Wealth is unfavorable and You Metal is useful, so the clash is the useful element striking the unfavorable one, read as clearing away the unfavorable rather than a bad sign. Still, the wife star itself is unfavorable, a hint that this area needs care and realistic effort, and strong-Wood years deserve extra attention.
