Mixed Officer and Seven Killings: start with strength
Mixed Officer and Killings means Direct Officer (controls the Day Master, opposite polarity) and Seven Killings (controls it, same polarity) both appear. It is not a verdict by itself. For a strong Day Master they are often the Useful God and mixing does no harm; only a weak Day Master suffers when both press at once, and then needs Resource to transform them or output to control them.

At a glance
| Situation | Does it matter? | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Strong + both on the stems | Usually not; they may be the Useful God | No need to remove either |
| Weak + both on the stems | Heavy pressure | Transform with Resource first, then control with output; in luck, prefer support |
| More Officer, a little Killings | Officer leads | Control or combine away the small Killings |
| More Killings, a little Officer | Killings lead | Leave the bit of Officer alone; focus on controlling or transforming Killings |
- Direct Officer
- Controls the Day Master with opposite polarity, e.g. Jia seeing Xin
- Seven Killings
- Controls it with the same polarity, e.g. Jia seeing Geng
- Transform vs control
- Resource turns their force into support; output attacks them directly
- Combination
- An Officer or Killings tied up by another stem counts as removed, not kept for use
Two real charts
Ji Mao · Xin Wei · Yi Hai · Geng Chen (female, 22 Jul 1999, 09:15, Beijing)
Yi Wood Day Master, with Xin Metal Seven Killings on the month stem and Geng Metal Direct Officer on the hour stem: both on the stems, textbook mixing. The Wei month and the Ji year stem are Wealth, which feeds Officer and Killings. Rated weak (support 2.1, pressure 4.9): Water useful, Wood favorable, Metal and Earth unfavorable.
The remedy sits in the day branch. Hai Water is Direct Resource: Killings feed Resource, Resource feeds Yi Wood, and pressure turns into support. Geng on the hour also combines with the Yi day stem, so the Officer is tied up and what really acts is the Xin Killings, a “Killings feeding Resource” reading. Water and Wood luck props the Day Master up and the pressure becomes drive; heavy Metal and Earth years feel the weight.
Ren Shen · Jia Chen · Ji Si · Yi Chou (female, 23 Apr 1992, 02:30, Beijing)
Ji Earth Day Master, with Jia Wood Direct Officer on the month stem and Yi Wood Seven Killings on the hour stem: mixed again. But Ji is born in the Chen month when Earth rules, and the Chen month branch and Chou hour branch are both Earth, so it is rated strong: Wood useful, Metal and Water favorable, Earth unfavorable.
Here Officer and Killings are the Useful God. Plenty of Earth needs Wood to loosen it, and having both simply means more help, not “mixing harm”. Note too that Jia on the month combines with the Ji day stem, but with a Chen month and Wood present it doesn’t transform to Earth; we read the original elements.
What exactly counts as mixing?
Direct Officer and Seven Killings in the same chart. Both are the element that controls the Day Master; only polarity differs. The strict definition wants both on the heavenly stems; a looser one counts branch main qi too.
That choice moves the numbers a lot: stems only, 5.5% of charts; with branch main qi, 23.9%. Much of the online talk about mixing comes from the loose version.
Strong and weak: opposite conclusions
Check strength first, then talk about mixing. A strong Day Master has energy to spare, and Officer and Killings put that surplus to work, so they are often the Useful God and a little mixing can’t topple you. A weak Day Master is already unsteady; Officer and Killings together are real pressure.
Among our charts with both on the stems, in the strong ones 93.2% had the Officer element useful or favorable; in the weak ones 48.5% had it unfavorable. Same mixing, opposite meaning.
If you’re weak, what resolves it?
Two routes: Resource transforms, output controls. Resource is the element that produces the Day Master: Officer feeds Resource, Resource feeds you, and pressure becomes support. Output is what the Day Master produces, and it attacks Officer and Killings directly. When Killings are very heavy both can work together, but pair them well, Direct Resource with Eating God and Indirect Resource with Hurting Officer, so they don’t fight each other.
Luck cycles follow the same logic: weak with heavy Officer/Killings, a Resource or Peer cycle that props you up is steadier than endless control. Among our mixed charts, 68.2% have Resource and 62.7% have output; only 7.3% have neither. Most charts carry their own remedy, just in different strengths.
More Officer or more Killings: which one goes?
The larger one leads; only the smaller one needs handling. Plenty of Officer with a little Killings: control or combine away that Killings and the chart clears. Plenty of Killings with a little Officer: read it as a Killings chart and don’t bother removing the Officer.
Another common case: the Officer or Killings is combined by another stem, the day stem included. We treat the combined one as pulled away, effectively removed, rather than kept and put to use. In charts with both on the stems, 59.1% have at least one of them combined.
Data: how common is mixing, and do most charts carry a remedy?
5.5% of charts show both Direct Officer and Seven Killings on the stems (110 of 2,000); counting branch main qi, both appear in 23.9%.
Of those 110, 60.0% are weak and 40.0% strong. In the strong ones, 93.2% have the Officer element useful or favorable; in the weak ones, 48.5% have it unfavorable.
68.2% have Resource, 62.7% have output, and only 7.3% have neither. Killings outnumber Officer in 30.9%, Officer outnumbers Killings in 20.0%, and the rest are even; 59.1% have at least one of the two combined by another stem.
Statistics: 2,000 birth times (birth years 1950–2010 uniformly random, random birth time, half male/half female, Beijing true solar time).
Common view vs. our view
| Common view | Our view | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Mixing is always bad | Strength first: strong charts often use Officer and Killings | In strong mixed charts, 93.2% have Officer/Killings favorable |
| Mixed women marry more than once | One structure can’t decide a marriage | Mixing on the stems is only 5.5% of charts, and favorables vary |
| Mixing means removing one of them | The larger leads; only the smaller needs handling | 49.1% have equal counts; then strength and Resource/output decide |
| Hidden stems count as mixing | Strictly, both must be on the stems | Loose 23.9% versus strict 5.5%, more than four times apart |
FAQ
I’m a woman with mixed Officer and Killings. Will my love life be complicated?
You can’t judge it that way. Officer and Killings do relate to partners in a woman’s chart, but for a strong Day Master they are often useful and mixing is harmless; a weak one needs Resource or output to balance it. Relationships also depend on the day branch, the luck cycles and real choices; no single factor decides.
I’m weak with mixed Officer and Killings. How do I deal with it?
The idea is to add Resource or output, or ride a Resource or Peer luck cycle that props you up. Day to day, that means not shouldering too many pressures at once and keeping support around you. We don’t recommend relying on a single object to “fix” it.
What does mixing mean in a man’s chart?
For men, Officer and Killings relate more to career pressure, rules and bosses. Strong charts feel it as drive; weak ones can feel over-managed and need resources that back them up.
Why do some sites say I have mixing and others don’t?
Different definitions: stems only, about 5.5% of charts qualify; counting branch main qi as well, 23.9%. More useful than the label is whether Officer and Killings are favorable for you.
Common mistakes
- A woman with mixed Officer and Killings has a messy love life or remarries: check strength first; strong charts often use Officer and Killings.
- Mixing must always be “resolved”: strong charts don’t need it; only weak charts need Resource or output.
- One of the two must go: the larger leads, only the smaller needs handling, and many charts need nothing at all.
