Ding Fire Day Master: what it is and how to read it
Ding is Yin Fire: focused and in need of fuel, it depends on Wood more than any other element. To read a Ding Day Master, first look for Jia or Yi as a source and Wu, Si or Yin as roots, then weigh the pressure from Water (Officers) and Earth (output). Climate is a repair.

Why does Ding depend so much on Wood?
A Yin stem doesn’t radiate like a Yang one: to keep burning, Ding needs Wood. Jia is its Direct Resource and the steadiest source; Yi helps too, more lightly.
Ding’s Lu is Wu and its Growth stage is You (Yin-stem reckoning); it combines with Ren and clashes with Gui. Gui is its Seven Killings, a real threat in winter.
Winter Ding: nine in ten take Wood
In Hai, Zi and Chou months Water rules and controls Fire. 88.6% of winter Ding charts are weak, and 88.6% take Wood. Wood does two jobs: it bridges Water to Fire and feeds Ding directly.
So for winter Ding, look for Jia and Yi first, then for Yin, Mao, Si and Wu roots.
Why is summer Ding’s Useful element so varied?
In summer 67.6% of Ding charts are strong, but the Useful element splits: Water 39.8%, Wood 28.4%, Earth 22.7%. Strong charts differ: rooted Water controls, thick Earth drains, and the calculator picks whatever the chart actually offers.
Summer Ding doesn’t automatically take Water.
Two real charts
Jia Chen · Xin Wei · Ding Chou · Xin Hai (female, 27 Jul 1964, 22:30, Beijing)
Ding is born in Wei, late summer, but three earth branches (output) drain it and two Xin (Indirect Wealth) wear it down, so Ding is somewhat weak. Jia on the year stem is its only source; the calculator uses Wood, favours Fire and marks Earth and Water unfavourable. The climate hint is Wood too.
Geng Chen · Xin Si · Ding Mao · Bing Wu (female, 9 May 2000, 12:00, Beijing)
Ding is born in Si, in season; the Bing Wu hour adds Rob Wealth and Lu, and Mao feeds it, so Ding is strong. The climate hint is Wood, but more Wood would only feed it. Strength leads: the calculator drains it with Earth, favours Water and Metal and marks Fire unfavourable. A summer Ding whose Useful element is not Water.
Data: how far apart are winter and summer Ding?
Our sample has 617 Ding Day Masters. Of 158 born in winter, 88.6% are weak and 88.6% take Wood, nearly the most one-sided season of any stem.
67.6% of 176 summer Ding charts are strong, with a spread of Useful elements; 76.2% of 151 autumn Ding are weak and 60.9% take Wood. 7.5% of Ding charts are judged special patterns, the highest of all ten stems, showing how easily Yin stems follow.
Sample: 6,000 charts cast with our own engine (birth years 1950–2010 uniformly random, random birth time, half male/half female, Beijing true solar time, fixed seed 20261014, reproducible). Seasons by month branch: Yin–Mao–Chen spring, Si–Wu–Wei summer, Shen–You–Xu autumn, Hai–Zi–Chou winter.
Common view vs. our view
| Common view | Our view | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Ding is a candle that blows out | Look at roots and Resource | 67.6% of summer Ding charts are strong |
| Summer Ding always takes Water | Use what the strong chart offers | Summer Ding: Water 39.8%, Wood 28.4%, Earth 22.7% |
| Winter Ding needs Fire for warmth first | Winter Ding is mostly weak; Wood feeds it first | 88.6% of winter Ding take Wood |
Common mistakes
- Ding is a candle, so Ding people are delicate and introverted: personality comes from the Ten Gods.
- Ding fears Water and goes out: strong Ding needs Water; weak Ding with Wood in between doesn’t fear it.
- Ding–Ren always transforms into Wood: it depends on the month; usually it is a tie.
FAQ
How is Ding different from Bing?
Both are Fire: Ding is Yin and focused, depends on Wood and is more easily swept along; Bing is Yang, outgoing and resilient.
What does the Ding–Ren combination mean?
Ren is Ding’s Direct Officer: Ding is closely tied to rules and duty. Transformation into Wood depends on the month; usually read it as a tie.
Which element does a Ding Day Master need most?
Winter and autumn Ding usually need Wood; summer Ding depends on the chart (Water, Wood or Earth). Use the chart page result.
Is Gui Water dangerous for Ding?
Gui is Ding’s Seven Killings. Weak Ding without Wood feels the pressure; with Wood between them, Gui feeds Wood and Wood feeds Ding.
