Wu Earth Day Master: what it is and how to read it

FateClear Editorial · Updated 2026-10-14

Wu is Yang Earth: thick and load-bearing, supported by earth in every season, so it is often strong. To read a Wu Day Master, first decide whether the earth is too thick or too thin: thick earth needs Wood to loosen, Metal to drain or Water to absorb; only thin earth needs Fire and Earth. Climate is a repair.

Why is Wu so often strong?

Earth rules four months (Chen, Xu, Chou, Wei), and the Fire months Si and Wu feed it. 45.5% of Wu charts in our sample are strong, the highest of all stems. So the first question is usually how to get thick earth moving, not how to add to it.

Wu’s Lu is Si and its Growth stage is Yin; it combines with Gui, and neither Wu nor Ji has a clashing stem.

Summer Wu: Water and Wood split it

Summer Fire and Earth are both strong, so 73.6% of summer Wu charts are strong, taking Water 45% and Wood 38.6%. Water (Wealth) absorbs earth and moistens; Wood (Officer) loosens it. Which one depends on which is rooted.

Spring is the opposite: Wood controls Earth, so 53.8% of spring Wu are weak and 55.2% take Fire, Resource that feeds Earth.

How is Wu different from Ji?

Both are Earth: Wu Yang, Ji Yin. Wu is solid and resists Wood; Ji is moist and more easily moved. With Wu, watch for earth burying Metal or blocking Water; with Ji, for Water diluting it.

Data: how often is Wu really strong?

Our sample has 587 Wu Day Masters: 45.5% strong, 33.4% weak, the highest strong share of any stem.

Summer (140): 73.6% strong, Useful Water 45%, Wood 38.6%. Spring (143): 53.8% weak, Useful Fire 55.2%. Autumn and winter Wu split roughly evenly and mostly take Fire or Wood, so “Wu needs Fire” only holds when it is weak.

Sample: 6,000 charts cast with our own engine (birth years 1950–2010 uniformly random, random birth time, half male/half female, Beijing true solar time, fixed seed 20261014, reproducible). Seasons by month branch: Yin–Mao–Chen spring, Si–Wu–Wei summer, Shen–You–Xu autumn, Hai–Zi–Chou winter.

Two real charts

Gui You · Ding Si · Wu Zi · Jia Yin (female, 7 May 1993, 04:00, Beijing)

Wu is born in Si, summer, with Ding (Resource) on the month stem; but Zi and Gui You drain it and the Jia Yin hour controls it, so the chart is balanced. With no clear strength direction, climate repair decides: the calculator uses Wood (to loosen the earth), favours Fire and Water and names no unfavourable element.

Wu Yin · Ren Xu · Wu Wu · Gui Hai (female, 7 Nov 1998, 22:30, Beijing)

Wu is born in Xu, in season; Wu on the year stem and the Wu (Fire) branch support it, so it is somewhat strong. A strong chart needs draining: the calculator uses Metal (output), favours Wood and Water and marks Earth and Fire unfavourable. The climate hint is Wood, kept as a favourable element.

FAQ

How is a Wu Day Master different from Ji?

Both are Earth: Wu is Yang, solid and hard to sweep along; Ji is Yin, moist and more easily moved.

What does the Wu–Gui combination mean?

Gui is Wu’s Direct Wealth: attention is tied up by Wealth. Transformation into Fire depends on the month; usually read it as a tie.

Which element does a Wu Day Master need most?

Strong Wu usually takes Wood, Water or Metal; weak spring Wu usually Fire. Use the chart page result.

Why doesn’t Wu clash with any stem?

Stem clashes pair opposite directions: Jia–Geng, Yi–Xin, Bing–Ren, Ding–Gui. Wu and Ji sit in the centre with no opposite, so they don’t clash.
