Ji Earth Day Master: what it is and how to read it

FateClear Editorial · Updated 2026-10-14

Ji is Yin Earth: moist and accommodating, but easily diluted by Water or hurt by Wood. To read a Ji Day Master, check whether summer has made it dry and thick, or spring and winter have left it weak, then choose Water, Fire or Wood. Climate is only a repair.

Data: how different are summer and spring Ji?

Our sample has 577 Ji Day Masters: 42.8% strong, 36.6% weak.

Summer (141): 81.6% strong, 0% weak, 79.4% take Water. Spring (130): 62.3% weak, 60% take Fire. The same stem flips its Useful element with the season, which is why the day stem alone can’t decide.

Sample: 6,000 charts cast with our own engine (birth years 1950–2010 uniformly random, random birth time, half male/half female, Beijing true solar time, fixed seed 20261014, reproducible). Seasons by month branch: Yin–Mao–Chen spring, Si–Wu–Wei summer, Shen–You–Xu autumn, Hai–Zi–Chou winter.

What does Ji’s moisture mean?

Yin Earth is soft: Ji can nourish Wood and hold Water, but its boundaries are less firm than Wu’s; much Water scatters it and much Wood cuts through it.

Ji’s Lu is Wu and its Growth stage is You (Yin-stem reckoning); it combines with Jia and has no clashing stem.

Why does summer Ji almost always take Water?

In Si, Wu and Wei months Fire feeds Earth: 81.6% of summer Ji charts are strong, none weak, and 79.4% take Water. Water (Wealth) absorbs earth and moistens; strength and climate agree.

So for summer Ji, check first whether its Water is rooted (Hai, Zi, Shen).

Spring and winter Ji: support first

In spring Yi (Seven Killings) controls Ji: 62.3% of spring Ji are weak and 60% take Fire, Resource that transforms the Killings.

In winter 54.7% of Ji are weak, taking Fire (42.1%) or Wood (34%). Fire supports Ji and repairs the cold on the way.

Two real charts

Yi Hai · Ding Hai · Ji Si · Gui You (female, 4 Dec 1995, 18:00, Beijing)

Ji is born in Hai, winter; two Hai and Gui make Wealth heavy, and You drains it, so Ji is somewhat weak. Ding and Si (Resource) help; the calculator uses Fire, favours Earth and marks Metal and Water unfavourable. Fire feeds Ji and warms the chart, matching the climate hint.

Yi Si · Geng Chen · Ji Hai · Gui You (male, 15 Apr 1965, 18:15, Beijing)

Ji is born in Chen, earth in season, and Si (Resource) feeds it, so it is somewhat strong. The climate hint is Fire, but more Fire would only thicken it. Strength leads: the calculator uses Water (Wealth), favours Wood and Metal and marks Earth unfavourable.

Common mistakes

FAQ

How is a Ji Day Master different from Wu?

Both are Earth: Ji is Yin, moist and more easily moved by Water and Wood; Wu is Yang and solid.

What does the Jia–Ji combination mean for Ji?

Jia is Ji’s Direct Officer: ties to rules, duty and, in a woman’s chart, a partner. Transformation depends on the month.

Which element does a Ji Day Master need most?

Summer Ji usually needs Water; weak spring or winter Ji usually Fire. Use the chart page result.

What is a Ji woman like?

Online texts say gentle and accommodating, but that comes from the farmland metaphor. The Ten Gods decide.
