Peach Blossom in BaZi: check whether you have it, then whether it helps

FateClear Editorial · Updated 2026-10-18

Peach Blossom, also called Xian Chi, is a spirit star: a traditional marker looked up from a table, not a force in the chart. You look it up twice, from the year branch and from the day branch. Each belongs to a three-harmony group (Shen-Zi-Chen, Yin-Wu-Xu, Si-You-Chou, Hai-Mao-Wei), and each group points to one Peach Blossom branch (You, Mao, Wu, Zi). Only if that branch actually appears among your four pillars do you have Peach Blossom. It points to charm, attention and romance coming up easily. Whether that helps or costs you depends on whether its element is favorable.

Data: how common Peach Blossom is, and where it lands

38.6% of charts (772) have Peach Blossom in the natal chart: 22.0% found from the year branch, 24.4% from the day branch, and 7.5% with two or more placements. Men 40.0%, women 37.5%; barely different.

Of 932 placements, 36.3% were favorable, 50.8% unfavorable and 12.9% neutral. Month pillar 33.3%, hour 29.0%, year 19.2%, day branch 18.6%; 15.8% were also clashed.

80.0% of charts have at least one of Zi, Wu, Mao or You, but 51.8% of those have no Peach Blossom. 75.9% of people get different Peach Blossom branches from year and day, so two Peach Blossom years in every 12.

Statistics: 2,000 birth times (birth years 1950–2010 uniformly random, random birth time, half male/half female, Beijing true solar time). Peach Blossom was looked up from the three-harmony group of the year and day branches (Shen-Zi-Chen to You, Yin-Wu-Xu to Mao, Si-You-Chou to Wu, Hai-Mao-Wei to Zi) and counted only when present in the four pillars; a branch found from both year and day counts as one placement.

How do you find it? Two steps, from the year and day branches

Work out the Peach Blossom branch from your year and day branches, then see whether it's in the chart. Shen-Zi-Chen points to You, Yin-Wu-Xu to Mao, Si-You-Chou to Wu, Hai-Mao-Wei to Zi. Born in a Chou year? Your Peach Blossom is Wu, and you only have it if one of your four branches is Wu.

Traditions differ here. Some use only the year branch, some only the day branch, a few the month branch. We check from both year and day, and insist the branch is really present; “should have” doesn't count. Done that way, 22.0% of charts have it from the year branch, 24.4% from the day branch, and 38.6% from either: about two people in five.

Are Zi, Wu, Mao and You always Peach Blossom?

No. They're only candidates until they match your year or day branch. 80.0% of charts contain at least one of Zi, Wu, Mao or You, yet 51.8% of those have no Peach Blossom by the method above. “You've got a You branch, so you're a flirt” is the most common misreading.

Say you were born in a Zi year with a Chen day branch. Your Peach Blossom is You. A Wu or a Mao in the chart has nothing to do with it: Wu belongs to the Si-You-Chou group and Mao to Yin-Wu-Xu.

Which pillar it lands in

Where it sits tells you where the topic tends to show up, not whether someone is faithful. A popular reading calls year- and month-pillar Peach Blossom “inside the wall” and day- or hour-pillar Peach Blossom “outside the wall”, meaning affairs after marriage. We don't read it that way.

Our reading: in the year or month pillar it tends to involve early life, family and school circles; on the day branch it sits on the spouse palace (the day branch, standing for partner and intimacy), so the topic is close to home; in the hour pillar it shows up at work, among people you manage, and later in life. Of the 932 Peach Blossom placements we counted, 33.3% were in the month pillar, 29.0% in the hour, 19.2% in the year and 18.6% on the day branch.

Favorable or unfavorable changes everything

If the Peach Blossom branch's element is favorable, popularity tends to bring opportunity; if unfavorable, it tends to cost you. 36.3% of the placements we counted were favorable and 50.8% unfavorable, with 12.9% neutral. Half the time it looks more like social obligations, entanglements and emotional spending than luck.

15.8% of placements were also clashed (a branch opposition such as Zi–Wu or Mao–You). The usual line is “clashed Peach Blossom, unstable love”. We read a clash as movement and change; favorable or not still decides the outcome, and a clashed unfavorable branch can mean the trouble breaks up sooner.

Two real charts

Gui Chou · Ding Si · Gui Chou · Wu Wu (female, 17 May 1973, 12:00, Beijing)

Step one: find it. Both the year branch and the day branch are Chou, in the Si-You-Chou group, so the Peach Blossom branch is Wu. The hour branch is Wu, so she has it, in the hour pillar.

Step two: favorable or not. Gui Water, the Day Master (the day stem, standing for you), is born in a Si month with Fire in command and no seasonal help. We rate it weak (support 1.7, pressure 5.3): Metal (Resource) useful, Water favorable, Fire and Earth unfavorable. Wu is Fire, Indirect Wealth to Gui Water, and unfavorable.

Reading: her social pull is concentrated at work and in later-life circles, and it tends to cost time, money and energy rather than pay back. It says nothing about infidelity. 2026, a Bing Wu year, brings the year branch to Wu, her Peach Blossom year, and Fire is unfavorable, so expect more socializing and more spending; keep it in check.

Xin Si · Wu Xu · Geng Wu · Yi You (female, 3 Nov 2001, 18:30, Beijing)

Find it: the year branch Si is in Si-You-Chou, pointing to Wu, and the day branch is Wu. The day branch Wu is in Yin-Wu-Xu, pointing to Mao, and there's no Mao. So one Peach Blossom, on the day branch, which is the spouse palace.

Geng Metal born in a Xu month with Resource in command; the branches Si, Wu and Xu are all Fire and Earth, and Earth feeds Metal. We rate it strong (support 4.83, pressure 2.17): Water (Output) useful, Wood and Fire favorable, Earth and Metal unfavorable. Wu Fire on the day branch is Direct Officer to Geng, which for a woman is the spouse star, and Fire is favorable.

Peach Blossom, spouse palace and spouse star all on one character, and a favorable one: close relationships tend to be a source of support, and romance usually comes from her own circle. Watch 2026, a Bing Wu year: Wu is activated, and while Fire is favorable, Bing Fire, Seven Killings, also shows on the year stem. Lots of romantic activity at a fast pace; no need to rush decisions.

FAQ

I have no Peach Blossom. Will I struggle to find a partner?

No. By our method 61.4% of people have none in the natal chart; they can't all be struggling. Relationships are read from the spouse star (Wealth for men, Officer/Killings for women), the spouse palace and the luck cycles. Peach Blossom is only a social hint; not having it doesn't mean no romance.

Peach Blossom in my hour pillar. Does that mean I'll cheat after marriage?

That isn't a valid reading. Hour-pillar Peach Blossom usually means more popularity at work and in later-life circles, which is a different thing from faithfulness. If it's unfavorable, it flags social and emotional overspending; keep boundaries. A marriage depends on the spouse palace, the spouse star and how two people actually get along.

How do I know which year is my Peach Blossom year?

It's any year whose branch is your Peach Blossom branch. Look one up from your year branch and one from your day branch. For 75.9% of people they differ, giving two Peach Blossom years every 12 years; otherwise there's one. Year and day branch both Chou? Both point to Wu, so 2026, a Bing Wu year, is the one.

Is a man with lots of Peach Blossom a player? Is strong Peach Blossom good for a woman?

Peach Blossom means you're noticed more and socialize more; it doesn't decide character. For men and women alike, check favorability first: favorable Peach Blossom reads as goodwill that opens doors, unfavorable as energy drained by romance and obligations. Personality and choices count for far more than one spirit star.
