Spirit stars basics: images, not a replacement for strength
Shen Sha are traditional markers looked up from the day stem, day branch or month branch (nobles, blade, horse, void, and so on). They supply images and talking points; reading still runs on Day Master strength, pattern and favourable elements. A spirit star alone does not decide luck.

What are spirit stars? A lookup table, not a second Useful God
Strength balancing answers what to feed or drain; spirit stars answer what traditional images sit here. Different layers. Fix strength and Useful God first, then open the table.
In our sample, 83.8% of charts hit at least one of Tian Yi, Yang Ren, Yi Ma or Void — almost everyone has some star. “I have spirit stars” is normal; what matters is whether they align with favourable elements.
Four common ones
Tian Yi: day stem → noble branches; help, exams, documents. 43.1% hit; among those, 60.8% are still weak — a noble image does not replace Resource/Peers when the body is weak.
Yang Ren: blade of the Day Master. 23.1% hit; 65.9% of those rate slightly strong or strong — matches “blade means strength,” but strong still needs Officer control; don’t write blood from the name alone.
Yi Ma: movement and travel images. The horse only raises a “motion” topic; good or rough depends on whether that branch’s element is favourable.
Void: a branch sits in the day’s empty xun — hollow, slow, not fully landing. Void on an unfavourable star can soften; void on the Useful God weakens help — back to fav/unfav.
Why spirit stars must not override strength
Spirit stars barely weigh season or force balance. A weak chart that needs Resource stays Resource-first even with Tian Yi and Yi Ma present. Praising nobles while skipping support is a misread.
Conversely, a strong chart with Officer control can wear Yang Ren as sharp talent. Stars give images; strength gives medicine.
How not to be scared by name lists
Fewer, clearer. Master Tian Yi, Yang Ren, Yi Ma and Void first; add peach blossom, canopy, robbery stars later. Disputed lookups (e.g. Xian Chi) we mark as “intro only.”
When a scary name appears, ask: which element does it sit on? Is that element favourable? Can the Day Master carry it? Three answers calm the list.
Two real charts
Gui You · Ji Wei · Ding You · Ding Wei (male, 15 Jul 1993, 14:30, Beijing)
Ding Fire is born in Wei: Earth drains Fire. Two You Direct Wealth, two Wei output, Gui Direct Officer and Ji Hurting Officer; rated strong: Water useful, Metal and Earth favourable, Fire unfavourable.
Stars: Ding’s Tian Yi includes You — two You hit; Ding’s blade is Wei — two Wei hit. Noble and blade together: images of help and of a strong blade that wants control. The verdict still comes from strength: strong Fire wants Water/Metal/Earth to drain; Yang Ren on Wei sits on favourable output — edge with an outlet, not a horror label; Tian Yi on You (Wealth) is read under “Wealth is favourable.”
Wu Yin · Ding Si · Gui Wei · Yi Mao (female, 5 Jun 1998, 06:00, Beijing)
Gui Water is born in Si: Fire in command. Yi Hurting Officer, Yin and Mao Wood; rated weak: Metal useful, Water favourable, Earth and Wood unfavourable.
Stars: Gui’s Tian Yi includes Mao and Si — both present; horse of Wei is Si — month Si hits Yi Ma. Noble and horse images say “help” and “motion.” Useful God is still Metal (Resource): stars don’t replace weak-body-needs-Resource. Metal/Water luck supports; Earth/Wood years make the horse feel like being pushed around.
Data: how “everyone has one” are common spirit stars?
Among Tian Yi, Yang Ren, Yi Ma (day-branch method) and day-xun Void, 83.8% of charts hit at least one. Split: Tian Yi 43.1%, Void 43.4%, Yang Ren 23.1%, Yi Ma 23.1%.
Of Tian Yi hits, 60.8% are still weak — noble image ≠ strong body or skipping support.
Of Yang Ren hits, 65.9% rate slightly strong or strong, matching “blade means strength,” still needing Officer control — not automatic disaster.

FAQ
I have Tian Yi. Will exams and job hunts always bring helpers?
Tian Yi often images patrons and documents, but chances still need the Useful God and activating luck. One noble doesn’t guarantee results.
Are Yang Ren people hot-tempered?
The blade branch strengthens the Day Master; temperament still depends on Ten Gods and fav/unfav. A controlled blade often reads as drive, not cruelty.
If Yi Ma moves, must I move house or emigrate?
The horse images motion — travel, role change, a faster pace — not mandatory immigration. When the horse’s element is unfavourable, motion feels more like being pushed around.
Does Void mean everything fails?
Void hints “hollow / slow / not fully real.” Void on an unfavourable star can lighten pressure; void on the Useful God needs luck to refill. Don’t treat Void as a universal bad star.
Common mistakes
- Tian Yi means lifelong helpers: image only; weak charts still need support.
- Yang Ren means blood and disaster: it marks strength; check control first.
- More spirit stars means a weirder fate: most charts have several; list length isn’t destiny.
