Xin Metal Day Master: what it is and how to read it

FateClear Editorial · Updated 2026-10-14

Xin is Yin Metal: fine and easily buried, it likes Water to wash it when strong and needs Earth and Metal when weak. To read a Xin Day Master, check whether autumn has made it too strong or spring and summer have worn it down, then choose Water, Earth or Metal. Climate is only a repair.

How is Xin different from Geng?

Both are Metal: Geng is hard and needs Fire; Xin is fine and prefers Water. Xin doesn’t resist Fire like Geng; Bing tends to combine with Xin rather than forge it.

Xin’s Lu is You and its Growth stage is Zi (Yin-stem reckoning); it combines with Bing and clashes with Yi.

Autumn Xin: nearly nine in ten take Water

96.9% of autumn Xin charts are strong and 89.5% take Water. Water (output) drains the excess Metal; it is one of the most concentrated seasons of any stem.

For autumn Xin look for Ren, Gui, Hai and Zi first; if Earth blocks the Water, look for Wood to loosen it.

Spring and summer Xin: why so varied?

Spring Wood wears Metal down: 51% of spring Xin are weak, and the Useful element splits Water 29.7%, Earth 26.5%, Metal 25.8%. Weak charts take Earth or Metal, strong ones still take Water.

Summer Xin is 47.8% weak (Water 40.9%, Earth 36.5%). In winter 45.3% take Fire, which controls strong Metal and warms the chart too.

Data: how consistent is autumn Xin?

Our sample has 613 Xin Day Masters: 42.9% strong, 32.8% weak.

Autumn (162): 96.9% strong, 89.5% take Water, the most concentrated season in the sample; spring (155) splits three ways between Water, Earth and Metal, and 45.3% of winter Xin (137) take Fire.

Sample: 6,000 charts cast with our own engine (birth years 1950–2010 uniformly random, random birth time, half male/half female, Beijing true solar time, fixed seed 20261014, reproducible). Seasons by month branch: Yin–Mao–Chen spring, Si–Wu–Wei summer, Shen–You–Xu autumn, Hai–Zi–Chou winter.

Two real charts

Xin Hai · Bing Shen · Xin Mao · Ji Hai (female, 3 Sep 1971, 22:30, Beijing)

Xin is born in Shen, autumn, in season; Xin on the year stem and Ji on the hour help it, so it is somewhat strong. Two Hai (output) are present; the calculator uses Water, favours Wood and Fire and marks Metal and Earth unfavourable: the classic autumn Xin pattern, matching the climate hint.

Geng Zi · Xin Si · Xin Chou · Jia Wu (male, 13 May 1960, 12:45, Beijing)

Xin is born in Si, summer; Wu (Seven Killings) and Jia (Direct Wealth) on the hour wear it down, so it is somewhat weak. Geng, Xin and Chou help it. The climate hint is Water, but Water would drain weak Xin, so strength leads: the calculator uses Metal, favours Earth and Water and marks Wood and Fire unfavourable.
