Three Wonders (San Qi Gui Ren): three stems in a row, and nothing more
Three Wonders (三奇贵人, San Qi Gui Ren) is a Symbolic Star that reads the order of heavenly stems. Jia, Wu and Geng in a row are the Heavenly Three Wonders (天上三奇); Yi, Bing and Ding are the Earthly Three Wonders (地下三奇); Ren, Gui and Xin are the Human Three Wonders (人中三奇). Our site's “Symbolic Stars lookup” marks the first two only when the stems run in that exact forward order across three consecutive pillars, either year–month–day or month–day–hour. The traditional order of the Human Three Wonders is given in two different ways, so our site lists it without a conclusion. Like every Symbolic Star here, it is reference only: it never changes strength, the Useful element or favorability.

Common mistakes
- A Three Wonders chart is automatically fortunate: the label only records a stem order, and its characters can be favorable, unfavorable or mixed, as example 1 shows.
- Three special stems anywhere in the chart count: the strict rule needs them in forward order on three consecutive pillars and reaches 0.29% of 20,000, while the loose version reaches 4.03%.
- Human Three Wonders are a fixed Ren–Gui–Xin sequence: the traditional order is given two different ways, so our site lists the group without a conclusion.
- A rarer label is a stronger one: rarity is a property of the calendar, and the 4 hits were two strong and two weak.
Two real charts
Jia Yin (甲寅) · Wu Chen (戊辰) · Geng Chen (庚辰) · Geng Chen (庚辰) (male, Apr 9, 1974, 07:45, Beijing)
This is a Heavenly Three Wonders chart, and its three stems do not agree. True solar time was 07:28. The birth came after Pure Brightness, so the month pillar is Wu Chen. The year, month and day stems are Jia, Wu and Geng in forward order, so the “Symbolic Stars lookup” marks the year, month and day pillars. The Day Master is Geng Metal, born in a Chen month; Chen Earth generates Metal, and Metal is Xiang there, so it is in season. The stems are Jia Indirect Wealth, Wu Indirect Resource and Geng Companion. The branches are Yin Indirect Wealth, Chen Indirect Resource, Chen Indirect Resource and Chen Indirect Resource.
The scoring gives Resource 3.45, Wealth 2, Companions 1, Output 0.4 and Officer/Killings 0.15, and the chart is strong (support 4.45, pressure 2.55). Useful element Wood (Wealth), favorable Fire and Water, unfavorable Earth and Metal.
The Three Wonders set is not a package of good news. Jia is Indirect Wealth and the Useful Wood; Wu is Indirect Resource and belongs to the unfavorable Earth; Geng is Companion and belongs to the unfavorable Metal. One favorable, two unfavorable. The label lists the arrangement, while strength and favorability decide what each character means.
Ji You (己酉) · Yi Hai (乙亥) · Bing Wu (丙午) · Ding You (丁酉) (female, Nov 27, 1969, 17:30, Beijing)
Here an Earthly Three Wonders chart puts all three stems on the favorable side. True solar time was 17:26. The birth came after Start of Winter, so the month pillar is Yi Hai. The month, day and hour stems are Yi, Bing and Ding in forward order. The Day Master is Bing Fire, born in a Hai month; Water is in command and Fire is dead in that season, so it is out of season. The stems are Ji Hurting Officer, Yi Direct Resource and Ding Rob Wealth. The branches are You Direct Wealth, Hai Seven Killings, Wu Rob Wealth and You Direct Wealth.
The scoring gives Companions 1.67, Resource 1.67, Wealth 1.5, Officer/Killings 1.33 and Output 0.83, and the chart is weak (support 3.33, pressure 3.67). Useful element Wood (Resource), favorable Fire, unfavorable Water and Metal.
The favorable result comes from strength, not from the label. Yi Wood Direct Resource is the Useful element, and Bing and Ding are favorable Fire. The chart is weak and needs Resource and Companions. A strong Bing Fire chart would put the same Yi, Bing and Ding on the unfavorable side, which is why the trio cannot be read on its own.
Why a real Three Wonders chart is so rare
The year stem and the month stem are tied together. Once the year stem is fixed, the month stems of the twelve months are fixed too. A Jia–Wu–Geng run across year, month and day needs a Jia year, then the Wu Chen month (in a Jia year only the Chen month carries Wu as its month stem), then a Geng day: about 1 in 1200.
The month–day–hour route is just as narrow. It needs a Jia month stem, a Wu day stem, and a Geng hour stem, which appears only in the Shen hour of a Wu day. That is also about 1 in 1200. Yi–Bing–Ding follows the same pattern: a Yi year only has Bing in its Xu month, and a Bing day only has Ding in its You hour.
Four routes together give about 1 in 300. The 20,000-chart count came to 58, 0.29%, which is close to that estimate. A rare stem order is rare because of how the calendar is built, not because of anything about the person.
The three characters keep their Ten God roles
A Three Wonders label does not turn its stems into lucky symbols. Each stem still has a Ten God identity and an element, and its value follows the chart's strength and favorability.
Example 1 shows the split plainly. Its Jia is Indirect Wealth and the Useful Wood; its Wu is Indirect Resource and belongs to the unfavorable Earth; its Geng is Companion and belongs to the unfavorable Metal. One favorable, two unfavorable, inside the same trio.
Example 2 shows the other outcome. The chart is weak and needs Resource and Companions, so Yi Direct Resource is Useful and Bing and Ding are favorable Fire. The same Yi–Bing–Ding trio would land on the unfavorable side in a strong Bing Fire chart.
Wide versions multiply the count
Loosening the rule multiplies the result. The wide version asks only that Jia, Wu and Geng (or Yi, Bing and Ding) all appear among the four stems, in any order and any positions. That gave 4.03% of the 20,000 charts, more than ten times our 0.29%.
Requiring three consecutive pillars but ignoring the order is also wide. It gave 2.23% of 20,000. In the 2,000-chart group, the any-position version reached 5% and the consecutive-any-order version 2.5%.
The narrow rule is the one our site uses. It hit 4 charts in 2,000, 0.2%, and 58 in 20,000, 0.29%. The label changes by a factor of more than ten depending on the rule, which is why it stays outside strength and favorability.
Human Three Wonders: listed, not judged
The traditional order of Ren, Gui and Xin is not stable. It is written one way in one place and another way later, so our site does not choose between them. The group is listed in the “Symbolic Stars lookup” without a conclusion.
The wide count for it is 2.02%. That is the share of the 20,000 charts in which Ren, Gui and Xin all appear, regardless of order. A label that common is a note, not a verdict.
A missing order is not a hidden message. When the rule itself is uncertain, the honest reading is to present the name and leave the judgment to strength and the Useful element.
What to do with the label
Read the chart first and the label second. Strength, the month command and the Useful element decide what the stems mean. The Three Wonders line only says that three stems happened to line up.
The 4 hits were two strong and two weak. That sample is too small to connect the marker to strength, and it is not meant to. It is a traditional reference that sits beside the chart.
A rare label is not a promise. Rarity makes a name interesting; it does not make it powerful. The same three characters can be favorable, unfavorable or mixed, as the two examples show.
Data: 4 in 2,000 and 58 in 20,000
The strict lookup is exact and very rare. It hit 4 charts in the 2,000, 0.2%, and it agreed with the “Symbolic Stars lookup” on all 2,000. The 4 split into two strong and two weak charts, too few to show any link with strength.
The wider versions are much larger. In the 2,000, having all three of Jia–Wu–Geng or Yi–Bing–Ding somewhere among the four stems reached 5%, and three consecutive pillars in any order reached 2.5%.
The 20,000-chart count confirms the gap. The strict rule found 58, 0.29%. Three consecutive pillars in any order found 2.23%, all three present in the four stems found 4.03%, and the Human Three Wonders trio all present found 2.02%.
The theoretical estimate matches the count. Each of the four arrangements comes to about 1 in 1200, and together they come to about 1 in 300. The random count of 0.29% sits close to that figure, which is what a calendar effect should look like.
Simulated charts: our BaZi calculator generated 2,000 random birth times (birth years 1950–2010 uniformly random, random birth time, half male/half female, Beijing true solar time), cast each chart and judged strength and the Useful element by traditional rules, then counted the results. These are simulated results, not a survey of real people and not a measure of prediction accuracy. Three Wonders was counted only when the stems ran in the exact forward order across three consecutive pillars, year–month–day or month–day–hour; a separate 20,000-chart count with the same random method and a different starting point was used for the wider versions, and strength was tallied for the hits. Calculation version: our BaZi calculator after the Oct 15, 2026 update (the same rules the site uses now; rechecked with site version v73 on Oct 20, 2026), random seed 20261014. To reproduce: rerun the same version with the same seed and the results match exactly; you can check any single chart by entering the same birth time in our BaZi calculator.
FAQ
What are Three Wonders, and does Jia–Wu–Geng in my chart count?
It counts only if Jia, Wu and Geng appear in that forward order on three consecutive pillars: year–month–day or month–day–hour. Our site does not count the three stems merely being present somewhere in the chart. In the 2,000 charts we cast, 4 (0.2%) met the strict rule. Your result appears in the “Symbolic Stars lookup.”
Are people with Three Wonders especially smart or lucky with helpful people?
No. Three Wonders is a stem arrangement, not a measure of intelligence or social support, and it stays outside strength and favorability. The 4 hits in 2,000 were two strong and two weak, too few to say anything about ability. One marker never decides a person's mind or friendships.
Is Three Wonders good for a woman?
Our site reads it the same way for women and men: as a reference marker that does not enter strength, the Useful element or favorability. What its characters mean depends on the chart's strength. For a question about marriage, money or health, the whole chart and real circumstances matter far more than one label.
Why does another reading say I have Three Wonders when you do not?
The other reading probably uses the wide version, which only asks that Jia, Wu and Geng (or Yi, Bing and Ding) all appear among the four stems, in any order and any position. That reached 4.03% of the 20,000 charts we cast, against 0.29% for the consecutive forward rule. Both readings can be reported; they are answering different questions.
Common view vs. our view
| Common view | Our view | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Three Wonders means great wealth and high status | It is a stem-order marker; strength and favorability come first | The strict rule hit 0.2% of 2,000 charts, and example 1 has one favorable and two unfavorable characters |
| Jia, Wu and Geng anywhere in the four stems make Three Wonders | Our site needs consecutive forward order | The any-position version reached 4.03% of 20,000 charts, against 0.29% for the strict rule |
| The Human Three Wonders count the same way | Their traditional order is inconsistent, so we only list them | Counting Ren, Gui and Xin as all present gives 2.02% of 20,000 charts |
| More Three Wonders characters means a stronger, better chart | The value of each character follows strength | Example 2 has all three on the favorable side because a weak chart needs Resource and Companions |
