How to Read Decade Luck (Da Xian) in Zi Wei Dou Shu

Quick answer: Da Xian is Zi Wei's ten-year luck. Its starting age comes from your element pattern (age 2 for Water 2 up to age 6 for Fire 6), and every ten years it moves to the next palace. To read a decade, treat that palace as your "Life Palace" for those ten years and look at its stars, its three directions and four squares, and that decade's transformations.
How the decades run
The first decade starts in the Life Palace. Yang-year men and Yin-year women move clockwise; Yin-year men and Yang-year women move counterclockwise. With Wood 3, for example, the first decade covers ages 3 to 12 and the second 13 to 22 in the next palace. Our Zi Wei chart marks the ages on every palace.
Three steps to read a decade
- Which stars sit in the decade palace. This is the attitude you bring to those years. A decade in a Qi Sha palace usually means more risk-taking and change.
- Where the decade transformations land. The decade palace's stem flies a new Lu, Quan, Ke and Ji. Decade Lu shows where opportunities open; decade Ji shows the lesson.
- How it meets your birth chart. If decade Ji hits the palace that already holds your birth Ji, or a weak spot, pressure is stronger. If decade Lu feeds a palace your chart needs, it helps.
How do years fit in?
The decade is the climate, the year is the weather. Read the decade first, then see which decade palace the yearly Life Palace and yearly transformations fall into. A good decade with a hard year is usually a small bump; a hard decade with a hard year calls for preparation.
FAQ
Is Da Xian the same as BaZi luck pillars?
Both run ten years, but they start differently and are read differently, and the ages often don't match. Read each by its own rules.
What if a decade lands in an empty palace?
Same as the birth chart: borrow the opposite palace's stars and lean more on the decade transformations and the four squares.
Is the year a decade changes always turbulent?
It often feels different, because your main theme changes. Looking ahead at the next decade's focus makes the switch easier.
